While we believe everyone should have access to safe, cost-effective healthcare no matter the month or how you identify, there is substantial evidence showing that there are still large disparities in equity and inclusion for LGBTQ+ patients. Below you’ll find a list of healthcare resources that cater to our friends in the LGBTQ+ community. Check it out, and if you have any additional resources, please share them in the comments!

Note: One of the best ways to save money in healthcare is by going to an in-network provider. Long time readers know the drill, but if you aren’t sure why it’s so important, read this article before you start making appointments (especially if money is a big concern)!

LGBTQ+ National Provider Searches

This provider directory from the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) is a database of LGBTQ-friendly providers in every state. Also check out GLMA’s top ten issues to discuss with your provider.
RAD’s mission is to “connect trans, gender non-conforming, intersex, and queer folks to accurate, safe, respectful, and comprehensive care in order to improve individual and community health”. Check out their provider directory here.
OutCare is a nonprofit with an OutList that “recognizes LGBTQ competent doctors and healthcare providers who identify based on 5 criteria as culturally competent in the provision of care, treatment, and services of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer population.”
While maybe a no brainer for some, we can’t leave out Yelp, Reddit, and Google! Search “Best [your criteria] Friendly Doctor in [your city].” Some healthcare providers state on their websites that they are LGBTQ friendly, so they should show up in search results.

Hospitals

The Human Rights Campaign releases an annual Healthcare Equality Index, a national LGBTQ benchmarking tool that evaluates more than 1,600 healthcare facilities' policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ patients, visitors, and employees. Check out your local hospital’s ranking here.

LGBTQ+ Health Clinics

The CDC has a list of LGBT health clinics by state and city.
Call your local Centerlink Community Center, ask them for a list of local recommendations.
Planned Parenthood offers a variety of services for the LGBTQ community.

Trans-specific Resources

Transcaresite has a national database of providers who assist with mental and physical aspects of a transition.
Trans in the South has a list of trans-friendly mental health providers, primary care physicians, HIV care specialists, attorneys, endocrinologists, and more. They function across 13 states in the South.
Trans Lifeline is a hotline run by and for trans people. They also offer other resources for members of the trans community.

LGBTQ+ Mental Health/Support

Pride Counseling is an online service that matches you with a “licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited psychologists (PhD / PsyD), marriage and family therapists (LMFT), clinical social workers (LCSW / LMSW), or licensed professional counselors (LPC)” who specialize in the LGBTQ community. The service allows you to chat with your counselor via video, phone, or their online portal. They operate as a subscription service and cost anywhere between $40-$70 a week for “unlimited access to your counselor.”
Looking for a therapist that identifies as gay? Psychology Today offers a searchable database of gay therapists across the country.
The Trevor Project is a “national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.” Their hotline is available 24/7.
The LGBT National Center is a nonprofit peer-to-peer support network that offers community connections and resources to the LGBTQ community. They have specific resources for youths, adults, and seniors in the community.

City/State Specific LGBTQ+ Resources

NYC - Lighthouse LGBT is “a group of NYC-based healthcare providers devoting our careers to caring for LGBTQ+ patients and specializing in LGBTQ+ health issues.”
NYC - NYC.Gov has a health map that allows you to find LGBTQ knowledgable providers and has published LGBTQ Health Care Bill of Rights
NYC - Check out this Metrosource article where they have a list of “LGBT Friendly Physicians”
SF - UCSF and John Muir Health offer lists of LGBT friendly providers. Email them directly for the most up to date list.
Colorado - Colorado.gov publishes a list of statewide resources for anyone looking for LGBT health resources in Colorado.
